About Mrs. Hepler
Welcome to Fourth Grade! My name is Mrs. Hepler, and I will be your homeroom teacher this year. I am very excited to have you in my class. I have taught some of you before in second grade, so I am really looking forward to being your teacher for another year.
Here is some information about me. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I attended college at Clarion University and decided to stick around the area! This is my eighth year teaching and my second year teaching fourth grade. I have also taught Spanish at Punxsutawney High School and 2nd grade here at Keystone. I am married and have three wonderful boys; my oldest is three, and I also have one-year-old twins. They keep me busy when I'm not in school!

About Fourth Grade
The "upstairs world," as I call it, is a little bit different from the "downstairs world." One difference is in Math. We have 4 math classes that all teach the same information but at different paces, based on the students' needs. You may or may not have your homeroom teacher as your math teacher. Another difference is Science. You will have a different Science teacher every nine weeks. That means your whole homeroom will move to a new teacher - and new subject matter - every nine weeks. For Social Studies, we spend half the year studying the Regions of the United States and the other half of the year studying Pennsylvania. For Reading, Spelling, and English, you will be with your homeroom teacher.
Since we have such a late lunch, students are permitted to bring a healthy snack to eat at the beginning of social studies. (It needs to be in line with the wellness policy.) I also accept food donations that the whole class can enjoy, such as animal crackers, pretzels, veggies, fruit, etc.

Demerit System
We use the demerit system to track behavior. This will be discussed at the beginning of the school year. Basically, students receive warnings for not having their homework done, inappropriate behavior, not being prepared for class, not returning papers that needed a parent signature, or other similar reasons. 3 warnings = 1 demerit. A demerit note was sent home for parents to see; this needs to be signed and returned as soon as possible. Certain amounts of demerits cause a student to lose different privileges, such as reward activities and field trips. Accumulation of Demerits will be reflected in your child's Citizenship Grade. Warnings and Demerits began on 9/12/12. (Click on the red link for the letter and Citizenship Grades by Reportiong Period.)
